Editorial:- This site is paid for by its readers. If you purchase something from a link I may receive a commission. This is at no cost to you.  Also, the opinions expressed are mine and not representative of any of the companies reviewed.

I like a company that divides opinions.

This one does it in the personal development/health and wellness niche.

It advertises itself as “Providing the Education that Regular Schools Forgot.”

That is not a bad start.

Some of their courses could be considered esoteric, with questionable scientific value, while others have a proven scientific foundation.

You won’t earn a bachelor’s degree or any other sort of mainstream qualification from Mindvalley University.

However…

They claim the sole purpose of Mindvalley, is for people to have the opportunity to be a better human.

Their courses are presented by highly acclaimed trainers, in bite-size chunks with various tasks allocated to the modality.

And the courses are designed around the philosophy of building a better you.

Anything from losing weight, passing exams, having better relationships, parenting, attracting abundance, and much more.

Welcome to

The Ultimate Mindvalley University Review.

Mindvalley University is not a university in the traditional sense of what we understand universities to be.

Who Created Mindvalley and Why?

Why Vishen Lakhiani Created Mindvalley

Essentially it was something that started as a side hustle in the USA.

Vishen Lakhiani completed his schooling in Malaysia, then moved to the USA where he studied for a computer engineering degree at Michigan university in the USA.

After graduating, he started an internship with Microsoft and spent some time in Silicon Valley.

In 2004 he registered a little website to sell meditation CDs.

It was called Mindvalley.

By 2011 it was a self-supporting media company building websites for authors.

It never really had a “WHY” until around 2013.

After numerous disagreements with a business partner, he bought him out and gained sole ownership of the company in 2015.

These days Mindvalley works as a social enterprise and is involved in a number of different social causes – the biggest of which is something they started in Kuala Lumpur called “Project Renaissance”.

It’s a project to turn the city into one of the Top Places in the World to Launch a Startup

Among other things, Vishen is the Inventor of numerous personal growth technologies and platforms – including the 6 Phase Meditation, which is endorsed by numerous public figures and athletes from every major USA Sports league.

He also travels and does interviews across various media to publicize his books.

Is Mindvalley Legitimate?

This is the first thing people looking for online courses in any company should ask themselves.

Because of the nature of its courses, Mindvalley is going to attract the cynical, the skeptical, and the trolls. Guaranteed.

On the other side, there will likely be supporters adding 5-star reviews gushing with praise.

There are only three things I want to know about companies.

  1. Whether the company is legitimate
  2. How they interact with customers.
  3. Are their courses any good? In this case, by the intangible (?) nature of Mindvalley courses, it is probably a contest between cynics and true believers.

Tip: Discount the two-word phrases with a 5-star rating, and read the 1-star ratings thoroughly.

Some could be trolls others are genuine.

The Trust Pilot ratings of 3,657 users of Mindvalley LLC give me this result.

Response from Mindvalley to a complaint on Trust Pilot. Used in the article The ultimate Mindvalley university review
Response from Mindvalley.
  • It has been around for 18 years.
  • 81% give it a 5-star rating
  • 9% give it a 4-star rating.
  • 7% give it a 1-star rating.

The biggest complaint? Site support:-

The reasons, refunds, Apps, and downloads.

However, they do respond to complaints and work to resolve them.

The overall rating on Trust Pilot is 4-star. So… not too shabby but below my magic 4.4 rating threshold.

I have a theory that anything below 4.4-stars falls into a problem area.

Other reviews give it a 3.5-star rating.

Mindvalley is not accredited by Better Business Bureau, however, there is information there on Mindvalley.

According to the BBB, Mindvalley’s Business Response rate is 96%

  • 51 complaints received in the past 5 years
  • 21 complaints closed in the past 12 months.

My thoughts:- I thought the 7% 1-star rating in Trust Pilot was high.

Add in the 2 and 3-star ratings and you have 10% who find it average to bad.

However…

Not everyone who is happy will tell you, and many who are not happy will scream from the rooftops.

Besides that, some of their offerings may seem radical to some people.

Given that, it is understandable that the 1-star rating is high.

Still, that is from a small sample of numbers compared to the total number of Mindvalley users.

A photo of a soccer player with the Rakuten logo on his Jersey. Used in the article The Ultimate Mindvalley University Review
Rakuten sponsored.

Which seems to include everyone from Monks to professional tennis players.

As always you need to be doubly sure of what you are signing up for, as they only have a 15-day refund policy.

One other thing that tells me this is a legitimate company is that is listed with Rakuten.

That is no mean feat. You must be a very squeaky clean business to be listed with them.

When you have a tennis player (Bianca Andreescu), who is a member and happily announces the program she was involved with in a press interview, you know it is not a scam.

That said, the free Masterclasses and refund policy (15 days), give you plenty of opportunity to decide whether or not Mindvalley is for you.

Probably a 4-star rating is an average across Google. However…

One statistic that stands out is it has a 5x completion rate of its courses over traditional learning courses.

So, for people who actually are involved with their courses, it should be above the 4.4-star rating.

  1. It is legitimate
  2. It is slow with customer service but it eventually comes through
  3. Some people may not like the presenter of a course, but still find good value in the benefits they receive.
  4. There are more than 16,000 customers who were happy to endorse Mindvalley.

I am inclined to ignore the ratings for Mindvalley.

I am satisfied though that it is a legitimate business with high ideals.

How does Mindvalley Benefit People?

The courses from Mindvalley are called Quests. The Quests are then split into 8 different modalities.

A photo of a dark woman with a blue denim shirt and white earphones around her neck looking at her phone in the background of white text superimposed over the photo of the mindvalley quest categories Used in the article,The Ultimate Mindvalley University Review.
Mindvalley categories
  1. Mind
  2. Performance
  3. Body
  4. Soul
  5. Work
  6. Entrepreneurship
  7. Relationships
  8. Parenting

The Quests follow a different structure from most online courses.

Their content is spread into daily 10-20 micro bits of reading and video lessons.

These are then supported by various tasks.

These tasks are “Your keys to success,” as they involve putting everything you learn into real-life practice

According to Vishan,

The People who benefit the most from Mindvalley are those who realize that they have hit a dead end.

Depression, anxiety, childhood traumas, broken hearts, unsuccessful businesses, boring jobs – you name it.

What is most important, is that those are the people who want to change their lives and become healthier, happier, and more successful versions of themselves.

Vishan lakhiani

I have an article about Death Doulas, on this site, it is a very mentally and emotionally charged job.

Many of the bios I have looked at in Death Doula courses have Reiki qualifications.

Unsurprisingly I found some who are also using Mindvalley modalities for their self-care.

Thinking about it. It is totally understandable.

It is not the only profession though, entertainers, not only musicians, but motivational speakers, athletes, and artists feature among the millions of people from all different walks of life, who have benefited from Mindvalley.

Who are the Mindvalley Presenters?

Most importantly Vishen Lakhiani. The founder of Mindvalley gives presentations. He also is the author of the NYT best-seller, “The Code for the Extraordinary Mind”

Photos of Jim Kwik Marisa Peer and Sadhguru some presenters of Mindvalley courses, used in the article, The Ultimate Mindvalley University Review.

As well, the presenters include other best-selling authors, top motivational speakers, and virtuosos from various fields such as…

  • Creative problem-solving
  • Entrepreneurship
  • Spiritual Fitness
  • Emotional intelligence
  • Inner Engineering.

Jim Kwik: His clients include Google, Virgin, Nike, Zappos, WordPress, SpaceX, Cleveland Clinic, Caltech, Harvard, and Singularity University.

Marisa Peer: Rapid Transformational Therapy®️ (RTT®️), has helped tens of thousands of people worldwide to overcome their own, personal challenges and lead happier, more fulfilling lives.

Sadhguru: As a visionary behind several massive-scale humanitarian projects in public health, education, and ecology, Sadhguru inspires millions to dedicate their time and energy to create inner well-being and in turn create a Conscious Planet.

The Pros and Cons of Mindvalley University Classes.

These are the courses currently on offer within Mindvalley.

A snapshot of the courses run by Minvalley. Used in the article The Ultimate Mindvalley University Review
Mind valley courses.

The general consensus is, that compared to various competitors in personal development, the price of Mindvalley courses is at the high end.

I tend to disagree that it is expensive. I mean, it isn’t the cost, it is the value you get out of it.

Some offer little more than a flashy page, take your money and deliver little else.

How about a tennis player (Bianca Andreescu), who becomes involved with Mindvalley to improve her mental strength (get her mind in the right space), and goes on to win a grand slam event?

Or at the other end of the spectrum, Death Doulas (hardly in the same income bracket as a grand slam winner).

They use Mindvalley (and/or Reiki), as part of their emotional self-care so they can continue to provide care and comfort to others… and earn an income.

Staying tough and doing your job in those circumstances is hard, then finding a quiet corner to shed some tears after it is over, and having the mental resilience to back up and do it all again is a tough ask without having some recovery method to fall back on.

If you are doing courses related to your work they can normally be claimed as a taxable deduction anyway.

Are Mindvalley Classes Worth it?

Rather than something traditional sounding, like Speed learning, I will go to the esoteric side and give an overview of The be Extraordinary Quest.

Here Vishen details a problem common to many seeking to improve aspects of their lives by studying books and videos and attending seminars.

Where people are on a continual search for answers.

Too many students of personal growth spend their entire lives never truly ascending to the highest levels of human potential.

The level where you gain an almost mystical power to shape the world, according to your thoughts. Where opportunities appear seemingly out of thin air. And where the fabric of reality itself bends in your favor

Vishen Lakhiani.
The four levels of consciousness. Modern man, culture hacker, state of limitless, the God mind. Used in the article The Ultimate Mindvalley University Review
The 4 states of consciousness

He gives 4 levels of consciousness.

Level 1

99% of the planet’s population operates at this level.

At this level, we function based on our conditioning from society, culture, and education.

At this level, most of us are bound by ideas like “you need a college degree”, “you need to get a job and save for retirement”, or even “you have to go to church every Sunday.”

When you question these patterns of human society, you start rising up to level 2.

Level 2.

Level 2 is called the ‘Thoughts Create Reality’ stage. This is where personal growth resides.

Here, you start exploring new ways of showing up in the world.

It’s where you discover ideas like meditation, speed learning, personal transformation, and fitness hacking.

It’s when you start ascending beyond what most people are doing and becoming extraordinary.

But this is far from the highest level you can be at.

Level 3.

Level 3 is the primary goal of the Be Extraordinary framework.

At this level, you’ve questioned so many ideas of the traditional world that you’ve now stepped into being a ‘Servant To A Higher Calling’.

This is where you’ll find new abilities start to emerge in you, including a feeling of connectedness with all of humanity and existence.

A feeling of being completely tapped into your intuition and inner wisdom.

A feeling of accelerated creation power, where your thoughts become reality at lightning speed.

And, even a feeling of connection to a Higher Power, as if the Universe itself is rooting for you.

Level 4.

This is a level of rare mystical oneness with all that is.

Most of the Be Extraordinary framework focuses on Stages 2 and 3, where the most tangible benefits await.

However, through this new and updated version of the framework, you’ll learn how to start accessing this elusive level for the first time through what is known as the ‘Merging Technique’.

Pros and Cons of Mindvalley.

Pros

All programs are delivered by experts who are highly qualified with real-life experience in their area of expertise.

  • The learning is effective
  • Efficient
  • Engaging and easy to learn
  • The CVs of teachers are easily accessible so you can see their experience and qualifications.
  • Mindvalley scores well with both its mobile and desktop platform.
  • Mindvalley programs have some of the highest standards in the e-learning industry.
  • It has an engaged community.

Having an engaged community makes learning fun, you can ask for help, and it generates the feeling of belonging to a family.

Cons.

Won’t work unless you do (same with any form of learning).

It is no Udemy. There are only 60 courses.

Udemy has thousands of courses related to self-improvement. Some individual courses are priced as low as $10.00. Udemy is ok if you don’t want a subscription but the downsides are there upsells to have a complete coherent course. The quality on Udemy varies considerably too, as anyone can upload a course to Udemy.

Although there were a few complaints in the reviews they were resolved to the customer’s satisfaction.

Cost:- Ok, the old adage comes into play here. You get what you pay for.

How Much Does Mindvalley Cost?

The Mindvalley membership with access to its complete catalog for $499 per annum.

There may be discounts depending on the time of year.

The free video below explains it all in detail.

Conclusion.

Mindvalley is not a scam.

The courses were not developed by random people and were then placed on the Mindvalley website to sell.

Because Mindvalley classes itself as a University, its courses are thoroughly prepared and structured before they become available to the public.

Naturally, there are expenses involved in doing this.

Whatever you want in your life you will more than likely find a way for getting it with a Mindvalley membership.

It all comes back to you and your belief(s).

As I mentioned above Mindvalley will seem esoteric to many people.

Some tutors have medical backgrounds, which is understandable I guess, as they are probably curious if mental therapy helps heal physical ailments.

The paid membership is a subscription and is recurring.

I mentioned the 15-day refund if not happy above.

As with all these online courses check the fine print.

If you signed up for a Mindvalley membership, go in boots and all.

Don’t hold back.

As always, feel free to leave any comments on your experiences in the comment box below.
