Hundreds of Ideas, But Which One?

A quick google search will give you lots of Ideas for starting a home based business. Dog Walking, Pet Grooming, Window Cleaning, Cleaning Rooftop Solar Panels. Personal Trainers, Wellness coach.

These are all good, the dog walking could be fun, if you want to lose weight and get fit, you get paid to do it. Your clients are likely to be well off and you could be paid well for a couple of hours work a day. If you are married with kids, then there is likely to be conflict with getting the kids off to school. So it is not suitable for everyone.

Home Based Business

Bookkeeping is a popular home based business for many people, some even have a mobile service. Ideal for people who need flexible hours. Then there are the outdoor type business’s which require minimal start up expense. Cleaning rooftop solar panels, or cleaning windows, house cleaning, painting, pet grooming, this boomed and many are now franchised.

Similar for personal coaches and wellness coaching,  these require some study that leads to a qualification. And all businesses will need to register with some government department and at periodic intervals throughout the year, use the services of a Bookkeeper or Accountant.

Then there are Home Based Business’s  that can be expensive to set up, often requiring a loan.

Landscaping or Wood Work are two.

They don’t have to be, with a sound knowledge of what your doing, a good understanding of contracts, these can be set up as one / two person operations.  Probably you would  require outside help on some projects, but these are industry’s where networking is common.

As these businesses ramp up other issues start to creep in,  bureaucracy, hiring labour, contract management, managing cash flow. There are codes to follow, particularly for hardscape landscaping. Licensing is required whether your a sole operator or have 10 people working for you.

If you expand, bureaucracy becomes more involved in your scope of operations. So very careful consideration should be given to managing your costs should you want to scale up the business.

Many people know the codes and are good at building a set of stairs, but come unstuck at the internal management of the business. Before you start any business you need to think about how big you want to go.

The opportunities will present themselves and you need to be prepared, it is easy to get in over your head.

These can be very lucrative operations, and people in these professions often use the internet to search for new ideas that keep them ahead of the game, as well as publishing photos of their work on sites like Facebook or Instagram to get more business.

You need to serious about what you do, but careful with how much work you take on. For many couples they are often a lifestyle choice. 3 day weekends and still earn a reasonable income.

Obviously they are not for everyone. a slightly extroverted personality won’t go astray, you don’t mind dirt under the fingernails, have the skills needed or ability to quickly learn those skills. (it ain’t hard !). Often they are a “love” business. Husband and wife working together and all the fun involved with that partnership. But they are successful. Often extremely successful.

Prospects for Success

Most of the world is online these days. It doesn’t matter where you travel to, you will see someone leaning against a post or wall texting furiously on a “smartphone”, or taking selfies. So digging up gardens or shaping wood hardly seems trendy, nor lucrative. However there are stats that tell a different story.

A check on what young people are studying at technical colleges, show that over the past 5 years there has been a huge increase in people studying horticulture / landscaping  ( more than 40% are women). Growth in this sector is increasing, so there are trained people coming through the colleges, which can only be a good thing.  Demand is also spurred along by T.V. home renovation shows.

What ideas for landscaping gives you is the working knowledge for creating beautiful landscape designs. It won’t plant the shrubs or trees, or dig the drainage, but it is well categorised and organised. Each design is carefully explained.

If you are into buying and flipping houses, this is an invaluable tool to increase the return on the properties you sell.

Other Home based Business Ideas.

They are numerous, a look around and you can see the trendy, or visit a market you will see those flying just under the radar. Ceramics, Jewelry making, art, clothes, home made jams and spreads, bee products, plants, health and wellness products, face painting, tattoos, photography,  you name it …most are specialized niches.

All have one thing in common, you need a skill to make something, even something as simple as a recipe. Often these are only hobbies and the income earned is representative of that.

The costs of surviving week to week given all the costs of child care, schooling, utilities, fuel and food is such that many families with 2 incomes rely on the income from a hobby to help sustain themselves or improve their standard of living.

Governments and Corporations are turning people into little more than economic robots, making it harder and harder to break out of the cycle of work, pay bills, back to work.

If your going to be a slave, ideas for Landscaping at least gives you the flexibility to do it on your own terms, not to mention the satisfaction index. Happy client, Happy you.

The physical creative is by far the best for creating a replacement income offering you the flexibility to work the hours suitable to you. I will include two different ideas below for you to look at.

There are other physical creatives of course, face painting kids at a market might be fun, but is it really going to boost the bank account?. Others,  like tattooing require you to be very pedantic,  value for effort doesn’t always reflect the true value of the effort, and work can be sporadic. Ideas for landscapes  is a complete landscaping resource with detailed diagrams, complete with color pictures and examples on many types of landscaping designs. It is everything you’ll need to get started in creating the perfect outdoor living experience for you and your family with gardens, pools ,decks, pathways ,sheds, gazebos, hedges, driveways, waterfalls, ponds, patios and walkways. Online Business’s

There is the online home business world. It is completely different to having a home based physical business. Often it can cost thousands and it could be years before you see any significant return. Not many people have the patience or financial capability to stick it out until it begins earning amounts that replace a full time income.

I will do more on those in future articles.

Totally agree with you on the government turn us into a robot and throws us into the workforce. I was raised by my parents, they kept telling me that If I do good in school, I will be successful in the future, so I did. Look at me now, a 30 something year old lady, (late in her 30s), quit her corporate job and try to be her own boss. Now it is just a beginning state  It has been hard with the bills that keep coming in, so I also do some freelances, like translating Eng-Thai or Thai-Eng and do some background acting on the side. I wish I have the specific skill set, but I graduated business, my major is finance, let’s be honest, if you walk down wall street in manhattan, you throw a rock at a person you will hit a finance person. The competition is there and very high pressure and stress job. So now I start a new chapter in life where I am learning the online business and hopefully it kicks off. We will see how it goes. Good read.

    Happy Holidays
